Educational directors or career directors, professors, or even certifiers... are using THE LAB. to optimize the soft skills of their students.

Question

How does your establishment adapt to the requirements of the labor market?

Like other sectors, the HR and CSR sectors are undergoing an acceleration of digitalization and unprecedented changes. The skills that are increasingly in demand are communication, flexibility, complex problem solving, all of which are soft skills. We are aware that for the same degree, candidates are recruited on the basis of these skills. In addition to offering them a solid background in technical skills in their training, we must invest in the training of transversal skills. At our institution we have been committed to this issue for a long time, they have courses on soft skills, career workshops, but we did not have a tool to measure the soft skills of our students in a personalized way.

From a pedagogical/career point of view, what were your challenges?

After covid, students have suffered so much from distance learning that engaging them online is a real challenge. You have to be innovative and creative to offer them a real learning experience. Moreover, the other challenge is that students, especially those in HR and CSR, do not want to be put in boxes, are very demanding; we had to find an inclusive, reliable and precise approach. Finally, we have a very intense workload because we are all research professors and we do not have much time to allocate to manage this type of program in addition to the courses we give and the administrative burden of the master's degree.

How did Rising Up come in to help you meet your 3 challenges?

Rising up helped us to easily deploy a program that was quickly accepted by students. From the start, they were all very attracted by the scientific approach and the platform that offered them a very personalized experience. Rising up shared the engagement data with us and we were all surprised to see that on the first day the platform was opened, 75% of the promotion had created an account and completed the first module. We were already receiving messages asking when the platform would be open for the second stage. Then the implementation was very easy, because rising up took care of everything, the reminders, the certification issues, etc. We saved a lot of coordination time, because in general we have to find a room, a speaker, the briefing etc. Everything was managed remotely because everything is online, this leaves a lot of flexibility to do the modules. We then received the promotion reports, which we were able to use quickly.

What were the results?

First of all, we received a lot of spontaneous testimonies from students who shared their enthusiasm for the experience. They really appreciated receiving personalized advice and also accurate measurements of their soft skills in order to be able to use them in their CV and during their job interviews. Then this allowed us to have key data on the students' shortcomings in knowing their soft skills in general but also in certain soft skills allowing us to adjust our educational brochure.

What tasks/goals were facilitated by Rising Up?

Thanks to Rising we were able to save time on implementing the program, we had little project management, because everything was facilitated by their platform. We had no bugs or technical connection problems, which is often the case, as soon as we use tools in our courses. We were also able to very quickly get an overall view of the promotion with the detailed report and the scores of the soft skill modules. This then facilitated the scoring.

What did the tool bring you in managing your master's degree?

The problem with soft skills is that they have been put in a box for too long, and it is difficult to measure them because they lack a precise definition as well as a tool that reliably assesses these skills. Having access to quantifiable data on these skills allowed us to realize that our students mastered operational efficiency skills perfectly but seemed to be a little less equipped than the communication part, which is for us a crucial aspect in their future job in HR or CSR, so we made the choice to strengthen their skills by adding specific courses on these skills. Without the rising up tool we would probably have missed this.
